Yes, data security is essential for us! The TÜV certification of the Bonsy app confirms, that your personal and financial data is protected using the best modern security measures. For example, your receipts and statistics are stored and transmitted in an encrypted way.
First things first: Your personal receipt data is completely anonymized and individual user data is not sold to third parties!
The data will not be stored traceable to individuals or single users outside of your personal account. Thus, it is possible to create compiled and anonymized evaluations of the shopping behavior of the Bonsy/BonBon community, which we share with food manufacturers or market research institutes, for example.
Conclusions can never be drawn about individual users. Analyses are also never carried out on individual users' receipts, but are always mixed with the data of all Bonsy/BonBon users. This ensures that the privacy of the individual is protected.

Please take a look at the privacy policy and send an email to hello@bonsy.com if you have any questions.
No. No technology is used to create personalized advertising based on your purchases. Your personal information will not be used for "online advertising" or "retargeting" or the like.
Please take a look at the privacy policy and send an email to hello@bonsy.com if you have any questions.
If you're not satisfied or have suggestions on how the app can be improved, we would appreciate it if you could send an email to hello@bonsy.com.
If you simply want to delete your account, please go to your profile within the Bonsy app and select "Delete User Account."
In the new window, confirm your request by tapping "Delete User Account" again.
After your confirmation, your account will be deleted within 10 days. If you change your mind and wish to keep it - cancel the deletion.
All user information stored on your account will be irrevocably deleted and cannot be recovered. This means that your statistics are no longer available and cannot be restored.

Yes! The functionalities of Bonsy are free for the users and also not ad-supported.
Currently, Bonsy supports all physical receipts that you receive at the checkout from major supermarket chains. You can find the information which supermarket chains are currently supported in the app on the top right of the home page. Unfortunately, we cannot yet process electronic receipts from the apps of the supported stores. If you have any feedback about this, please let us know. Just write a short email to hello@bonsy.com and we will answer you as soon as possible.
Yes! With the latest update, you can now also log your income in Bonsy.
To add income, tap the plus icon at the bottom center of the screen and switch to the “Income” tab. Simply tap the plus icon at the bottom of the screen, switch to the “Income” tab, and click “Manual Entry.” Add details like source (e.g. salary, pension, or rental payment), date, amount. Additionally, you have the option to add a note or create a label, making it easier to locate your income entry later. Once you click “Confirm”, the income will be added to your statistics.
On your homescreen, your expenses and income are displayed side by side, giving you a complete overview of your finances. Any changes will be reflected immediately after adding an income entry.
Push notifications are an easy way for Bonsy to inform you, for example, that a receipt is available for you in your statistics. Bonsy will also occasionally send you push notifications when updates about new features are available to you. You can also use the app completely without push notifications.
Bonsy always tries to provide the best result for our users and is constantly improving this functionality. However, if products are purchased that are not frequently in the shopping baskets of the Bonsy community, you may need to either confirm or change the category before the product can be added to your statistics. The changes you make will help make the results better in the future. Therefore: Thank you for your help.
The receipt data and statistics are stored without a user account on the basis of your cell phone ID. Without a user account, the data will only be linked to your cell phone ID and when you change your cell phone, it will simply be a new device for Bonsy. But if you create a user account, the receipt data and statistics will be assigned to the created account.
So if you change your cell phone you have the possibility to "move" your data, receipts and statistics. If you don't want to do that, you can also use Bonsy as a guest. But keep in mind that if you change your cell phone for any reason, there is no way to see your data on the new device.
As an authorized user, you’ll unlock more cool features, like creating a shared household, adding labels, customizing category names, and many others, that enhance your experience and give you even more control over your finances.
We are constantly working to support more merchants. Just send us an email to hello@bonsy.com with the information which merchants you are missing. We will try to add them as soon as possible.
The evaluation of receipts is not as easy as you might think. In order to always give you the best results, sometimes receipts have to be analyzed in detail to make them available to your personal statistics.
It can also happen that we do not support the retailer yet. Please have a look at the app to see which receipts can be analyzed at the moment.
There are several reasons for this. If the image of a receipt is not of good quality or certain information such as the retailer logo or the invoice total is not recognized,
we have to ask you to upload a new photo. It can also happen that we do not support the merchant yet. Please have a look at the app to see which receipts are currently supported. You can find the currently supported merchants on the top right of the home screen.
Simply click on Create User Account in the app. Currently Bonsy supports login via Facebook, Google or Apple.

This feature is currently in its initial phase or beta version. However, we will gradually improve and expand it. Please feel free to let us know which features you would like to see, and we will consider them in the future development of the feature.
The "Household" feature allows you to manage expenses collectively with other users. You can create or join a household and decide whether to share or keep your expenses private within the household.
When you create a household and share the invitation link, as soon as the first member accepts your invitation, all your existing expenses will automatically be shared with the household. After this point, you can create both personal and shared expenses.
You can join a household via an invitation link from someone. If you want to share all your expenses with the household when joining, simply tick the relevant box when accepting the invitation. If you prefer to keep your expenses private, leave the box blank.
Household members can view and edit any shared expenses within the household. However, your private expenses can only be viewed and edited by you.
To add or remove an expense from the household, open the expense details, tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner, and select either ‘Add to household’ or ‘Remove from household.’ After confirming, the expense will be shared or made private accordingly, and visibility will be updated for other household members.
On the home screen, you can easily switch between personal and household accounts to manage your expenses in either mode.
If the owner of the household deletes their account and there are at least two other members in the household, the ownership will be transferred to the member who has been in the household the longest. However, all receipts and data uploaded by the previous owner will be removed from the household and will no longer be accessible to the remaining members.
To leave a household, navigate to the ‘My Household’ section from your ‘My Profile’ screen and tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner. Then, select ‘Leave Household.’ Once confirmed, you will be removed from the household. Please note that after leaving, you will no longer have access to the shared budget overview. Any expenses you previously uploaded and shared with the household will become visible only to you, not to other members. However, you will still be able to view and edit your private expenses.
You’ll help us greatly improve the categorization of purchased products and provide you and other Bonsy users with product information! Currently, Bonsy does its best, but knowing the barcode will ensure accuracy. Please be aware that processing the scanned barcodes will take some time, but by scanning, you’re providing significant assistance to us and the entire Bonsy community. You're amazing - thank you!
When you upload a receipt with products unknown to Bonsy, the app will prompt you to scan the product's barcode directly underneath the product name.
To scan a barcode, tap the "Scan barcode" button. This opens the camera screen, where you can hover over the barcode. The app will automatically detect the barcode, show a success checkmark, and navigate you back to the receipt details.
If none of the products on your uploaded receipt are available for scanning, it means those products are already recorded and verified in our database.
You can usually find barcodes on the packaging or label of a product, often near the bottom or back. You can scan almost all barcodes on qualified products. Exceptions include multi-line codes on products packaged directly in the store, such as at a service counter or bakery. These codes are currently not supported.
The data collected through barcode scanning is anonymized and not personally identifiable. The same privacy policies that apply to your statistics and receipts in Bonsy apply to this feature.
We welcome feedback on the new feature. Your suggestions, requests, and criticisms help us optimize the tool and provide the best user experience.
We appreciate any email to hello@bonsy.com!
Please click on Feedback in the app. Then an email window will open and you can let us know exactly what is happening here. We appreciate every email and will try to help you as soon as possible.
A beta mode means that the app may not be working 100% smoothly here and there yet. It also means that we are very happy to receive feedback from our users and will try to take the feedback into account as much as possible in further development. If you have any ideas on how to improve the app, please send an email to hello@bonsy.com. You can find more information about the beta version here.
Bonsy is an app by marktguru Deutschland GmbH - a subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE.
Currently Bonsy can be used in Germany and Austria.
From the invoices uploaded as simple photos, the texts are first recognized. Bonsy attempts to categorize these texts using its own machine learning model. So, if Bonsy recognizes "Cola 0.5L", then Bonsy knows:
That's a soft drink. However, text recognition from receipts doesn't always work flawlessly, for example, because the quality of the receipt is insufficient. Poor image quality can easily turn "Cola 0.5L" into something like "C0la 0.51", "Co1a O.5L", "C01a" - so, a lot can go wrong here. Bonsy can handle this well and automatically categorize these texts as "soft drink". However, for a user, this would be VERY time-consuming, as almost all texts contain a small error.
Introducing personalized categories would require transferring this assignment work to the user, negating the advantage of automatic categorization.
We hope this explanation is clear for you.
Please let us know which categories you find missing so that we can improve our model in the future
Bonsy automatically recognizes bottle deposits and excludes them from your expenses since you get the deposit back when you return the bottles. As these aren't considered actual expenses, there is no need for a separate category to ensure accurate tracking.
